Writer Karin Amatmoekrim did her PhD on this remarkable biography about the extraordinary Anil Ramdas, acclaimed essayist and television producer, who, as the conclusion of a destructive decline in work and as a person, ended his life. Amatmoekrim: “It was unanimously concluded that his self-chosen death stemmed from his uprooting, immigrant grief. I believed I could see other things myself. What I wanted was to look at the changing Netherlands through the lens of his work” (Trouw, 2023). Through the lens of his work, that is how the biographer described Anil Ramdas’s life.
