Surplus:
On the new issue of nY

On November 22nd, nY, Flemish magazine about literature, criticism, and leisure, will launch their latest issue – title: Surplus – about capitalism‘s excesses and surplus as a mode of resistance.
Riots, looting and spontaneous sabotage reveal an absolute dysfunctioning of the present. As expressions of surplus resistance, they contain an anti-capitalist moment without a clear program, goal or plan.
In nY 55 we explore the language and politics of surplus. How are we to understand this unmistakable cry for another world? What does contemporary surplus and its resistance look like, how can it articulate itself, and what can a literary magazine contribute to the political language that surplus resistance creates?
With: Emile Ike on the materialistic background of surplusification, Nguyễn Thị Mai with new poetry, the film We Will Maintain by Festus Toll. Layal Ftouni on sperm smuggling from Israeli prisons as a ’life-affirming‘ act of resistance, Femke Kaulingfreks and her research into the political significance of public order disturbance, Eddie Azulay presents their translation of Sean Bonney’s ACAB: een kinderrijmpje and the anonymous zine collective Research&Destroy.
