Perdu editor asha karami wins Charlotte Köhler Stipendium
Poet asha karami has won the Charlotte Köhler Stipendium, a €5000 grant for literary talent. She received the prize for her 2019 debut collection Godface (De Bezige Bij), which also received nominations for the Herman de Coninck Prize, Grote Poëzieprijs and E. du Perron Prize. And that feels extra special, of course, because asha is a fellow programme maker and editor here at Perdu!
The festive award ceremony takes place on 26 November 2024 in our own theatre, at 16:30.
The jury presents the award as ‘a recognition of karami’s unique and innovative voice in poetry, which interrogates larger political and social complexities,’ and praises asha’s overall commitment to the poetry sector. Not only does she work as a doctor, a poet, and as our programme maker, she is also active as a judge at poetry slams and as an editor for the online literary magazine The Internet Guide.
The Stipend is awarded annually to an author or translator whose titles have been published in the past five years. Each year, a different genre qualifies: this year it was poetry, but theatre will take centre stage in 2025, literary translation in 2026, and prose in 2027.
And, of course, you can find Godface in our shop and webshop.
