An Evening with Ghayath Almadhoun & Ricardo Domeneck

Bringing the works of Ghayath Almadhoun and Ricardo Domeneck together on stage, the evening offers a reading by both poets, together with a screening of their film work. Hosted by Hanna De Grave Loyson and co-organiser Mia You.

Ricardo Domeneck (born 1977) is a contemporary Brazilian poet, author, essayist, visual artist and critic. He has published 10 collections of poetry and two collections of prose in Brazil and Portugal. His work has been translated and published in the United States, Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands. He lives and works in Berlin. Ricardo’s work strains colonial frameworks, intertwining the corporeal and the theoretical. Historical and philosophical thought shares the stage with the body and physical experience as the recurring material for his work.

Ghayath Almadhoun is a Palestinian poet born in Damascus in 1979. He moved to Sweden in 2008 and  currently lives between Berlin and Stockholm. Almadhoun has published five collections of poetry in Arabic – the latest being I Brought You a Severed Hand from 2024 – and his poems have been translated into nearly 30 languages. Almadhoun has been translated to Dutch three times by Djûke Poppinga, each time published by Uitgeverij Jurgen Maas: Weg van Damascus (2014), Ik hier jij daar  (2017), and Ik heb een afgehakte hand voor je meegenomen (2024). Described as “an ink that refuses to dry,” the work of Ghayath is as haunting as it is pervasive, traversed with collective and personal experience of displacement, exile and war.
